slipstreem,

Download this manual

Read from page 10 onwards on Bob Boyce's design. You will understand it.

Rich/Glenn,

Using spray bar will only work if the water on each compartment dries equally. Just need one water level indicator to trigger switch for refilling to all compartment with same amount of water.

But I don't think this will be situation in actual scenario. Just take a look at our car battery. All the compartment & spacing are equal but why there are water level differences during refilling?

During electrolysis, I think some of the cell compartment will consume more water than others then spray bar will not solve the problem. Got to confirm that when experimenting.

Kumaran, You are correct on the different levels problem. I tend to allow
some inefficient processes to help in this area. I find that if one cell gets much higher
than another - the higher one tends to Froth over the top and in effect self levels.
Usually this only causes a short period of poor efficiency . Also in a car , the
sloshing helps to self regulate the level. The spray bar reduces the time
that the inefficient systems need to do their job.

Rich , please feel free to correct me, you do it so nicely , Thanks.
I like being corrected " I learn too ".
Cheers, Glenn.

For even cell leveling, why don't you try something like this:

Image

The dark solid circle is a hole in each stainless steel plate. The large circle is a solid metal "disc" that seals against each steel plate. The smaller circle is a hole in that disc. As the disc rotates, there is a time where the two holes line up and the liquid can level between the cells. This would "short" two of the cells together, but if timed correctly only two would be shorted at any given time. To combat this, simply run one extra plate to make up for the "shorted" one. This would allow you to keep the level of one single cell steady, but it will equalize between all of the cells as the disc is spun and water is cycled through.

To keep the cells from "sloshing" between cells when the box is shaken around, do something like this:

Image

Instead of making individual "tops" (the solid grey), make one solid piece and simply have a hole on top where the gas can escape into the gas chamber (the very top of the unit). Use urethane (or some other soft substance that won't react with your dielectric) and simply carve it out with a knife or Dremel, etc.

No, don't soak the plates in anything but clean distilled water. Anything you use to clean the plates will soak into the pores in the metal and come out to contaminate the electrolyte.

Bent plates (or rotating discs as suggested by pinhead) will interfere with cell plate spacing. If you expect it to work at peak potential, then it must be built accurately. If you do the best you can, and can accept the way it performs, then you have at least tried your best.

I have been too busy with other things to get on here much, sorry for being scarce.
