Stacked series cell

Postby Beshires1 » Sat May 05, 2007 9:18 pm

Just thought I'd inform ya about my new stacked series cell project. You can view a short test run (unconditioned cells), at http://oupower.com/index.php?dir=_Other ... ies%20Cell Also to tell ya that I,m now conditioning the unit at 9.45V @ 1.6 amps. There are 7 pails in this unit leaving 6 cells, conditioning at 1.44V across each cell. The unit is turning a deep gold and actually the gas output at this low voltage is impressive. The unit will run on 7.45V @ .48 amp but will not startup on this low voltage. I used my variac to bring the cell up then backed off the voltage slowly until electrolysis almost stops. Also the rubber sleeve seen in the drawing is a test. made from rubber roof scraps, and seamed together with..... Yep "GOOP" glue. I'm putting it to the test, emersed in a strong sodium hydroxide bath.

That looks like a nice unit you have there.
I will be very keen to see what Measured volume of gas you get from
it.
I am interested in the Goop test.
I have stuffed up with some wrong adhesive [ Could not last in the Potassium
Hydroxide ] and I'm looking at trying to reclaim my existing test
with some Goop glue if it works.
I think if I had to use those bell shapes , I would lay them over,
within a tight fitting tube and just have a hole per cell in the tube at the top.
I would use spacer rings [ insulating ] to keep each bell in line . Filling
those existing holes in the bells might be awkward.

You are doing a very interesting experimewnt - hope it works out.
Keep us up to date.
Glenn , See Ya.

Glenn about the refilling, the top of the unit will be assembled, maybe, like this one. Its one of my old parallel units. There is a better picture in my projects under Efficiency reports.

Looks like a good way to do it.
How are you getting it to stop at the desired level?
I did not see electrical connections in that pic, were they neatly hidden?

Glenn, no, the electrical connections arn,t hidden, just hard to see. The tube you see is the gas outlet. the larger black thing, is the filling cap.(cut the top off a plastic cola bottle, and attached it with ....GOOP Glue. The top is clear plastic bowl, so you can see when you got it filled with water. Look closely at the output tube fitting. You can see one electrical connection, sticking up from behind the 90 elbow fitting. you can barley see the other connection behind the filler cap. Oh, by the way The entire top ( clear plastic bowl) is glued on directly to the top Stainless Steel dish with GOOP Glue. I ran this unit on my Jeep Cherokee all of last Summer. Because it was a parallel unit, It didn't need much if any sodium hydroxide, Removed for the winter so it wouldn"t freeze. That unit never leaked. GOOP Glue is pretty tough stuff once it has fully cured.I always allow 24 to 48 hours for it to fully cure.

Thats a pretty good test of the Goop Right there.
That unit got Hot , I expect!
I really must get some Goop.
Thanks.

Im not really aware of mild temperature circumstances but under a hot enviorment the goop gets hard and begins to peel off of PVC.....thats all i can offer on it...it is a great glue tho...Chris our site owner give us that helpful tip.Maybe in a mild enviroment it culd last several months???

There are different types of Goop Glue for different purposes. The dividers on this unit were glued with plumbers GOOP and this unit got very hot. PVC deformed, but the Goop still held well. This unit was run with strong electrolyte,.(sodium hydroxide). The glue never failed and, in fact , the container is still together. If the glue is allowed 24-48 hrs of curing time it has not failed on me yet. (except when I tried to stop a fuel injector leak). http://oupower.com/index.php?dir=_Other ... &PageNum=2

Nice job Beshires,The Goop that I was use'n was the stuff Chris reccomended and it was Goop Household contant adhesive and sealant.I remeber Chris say'n someth'n about the plumbers glue...I think that it was a little less lienant on a timeline as I think it sets up or becomes tacky fastewr than the Household Goop.Thank You for sharing yer results...sounds like a promissing sealant to use. 8)

First video showing my series cell reactor. The production rate of this unit far exceeds the output of gas of any of my previously designed parallel units. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 1714&hl=en
