aw dang, it's been a while since I've read about this stuff. When I was talking about the second example, I meant the valence bands (and conduction bands) of different elements, and the fact that if you mix together two metals in a way that one metal's conduction band is similar to its neighbour's valence bands, you get neat quantum stuff happening. (the mention of p- and n-silicon was just one example of elements with overlapping conduction and valence bands; I wasn't asking if you used silicon in your experiments.)

I would suggest the following:
1. get a device called a "Wheatstone Bridge"
2. Use the bridge to figure out the capacitance of the cell while cold.
3. raise the temperature of the cell with only water in it 1 degree at a time and record readings from the bridge.
4. this may take a while, but actually get the water to a boil while taking readings.
5. use the capacitive values extrapolated from YOUR cell with the bridge, and apply to the charts in the Radio Engineering Handbook to find out the corresponding frequency for input based in temperature of the cell.
6. use a water temperature sensor like that from a car, that controls the gauge, and put in the cell. the variable resistance output could be used in the circuit to make it "self tuning" per say, and allow for the cell frequency to be maintained while the cell either gains temperature or loses temperature, the production will/ should be constant.
7. remember that every cell is different, and even though 50 of them may look identical in every way, the capacitive values of each are going to be different. this is why every cell MUST be tuned to match the corresponding input values according to the value of capacitance of every cell, whether you have a 1 cell unit or a 900 cell unit, you must do this- or something to the same effect- on every cell to achieve any sort of good results.
