hey take it easy bro, it's simpler than you are making it. if you think you can aleviet the problem by adjusting cam timing just simply install an adjustable cam gear. depending on your engine you may or may not have one. if not, then yes, you'll have to get all complicated, or just try and find a suitable counterpart, ie another engine that uses the same cam gear that is offered in the aftermarket.
