circulating electrolite

This forum is for discussing anything related to electrolysis and electrolyzer designs.

I was wondering if it was possible to cirulate the same electrolite through
multiple cells wired in series?

YES. look up the FLOW-Battery. this unit is being rigorously tested here in the arctic. it pumps the fluid about to prevent globulous build-up of the metallic particles that typically short out the cells of a lead acid battery. this allows the metallic particles the spread more evenly and re-plate on recharge better than the typical older bateries ever did. this being said, why not use the same tech in reverse?

currently these are the size of 3 large refridgerators standing next to each other. but time will allow them to get smaller.

SWEET!
I wasn't quite sure. I didn't remember seeing electrolite flowing through all the cells wired in series on here yet. With this design I'm hoping to compact 7 series cell design with a single level controll system.
Plus the benefitts of the fluid flow mixed with gas helping to dislodge bubbles on the plates as it flows through the rest of the cells.
I'm thinking of 3 plate cells with 40 sq. in. of surface area pushing 20 to 25 amps. 7 cells should get my voltage down to less than 2 volts running off the cars battery system.
Let me know what any of you guys think.

I think you will have a very hard time flowing a common electrolyte amongst all 7 cells without creating leakage currents that will short out from one cell to the next and ruin the efficiency. Electrolyte from one cell contacting electrolyte from another cell in the same electrical series chain will "short out" the cells due to the conductivity of the electrolyte.

The idea is great, and has been brought up many times, and attempted for many years. Implementation however has been the bugaboo.

Looking into that a while back i ran across some teflon hyperdermic needles that may help in that sistuation.

well setup as a standard series cell yes you would "short-out" but if you were to do each cell as a parallel set with several sets making the series part of it then i don't think you'd have as much of an issue.

Depends on what sort of efficiency you're after. Parallel cells connected in series can't even come close to the top efficiency you can get out of true series cells.
