All I remember is that it was done in America, and someplace near the west coast. I can't seem to find the article, it's been so long, and lots of shuffling of stuff makes for stuff to get lost.

I do recall reding it was a big car with a big engine (big block style) and it was a chevy because parts were cheap like all chevy parts are. they also mentioned something in there of interchangability of parts, but basically a stock motor and transmission. it was a dirt track (closed course) and run in very hot weather. the report indicated a strong significance to the point of a set of data that showed that the engine needs no cooling system because it ran too cold anyway. BTU's of the fuel were next to nothing, and so it could not heat up the engine very well.

there's not too much more i can recall, other than it was done in the late 1970's.

Good response Glenn, I know you paid attention. Most of the guys here totally miss the boat, and keep trying to make single cells running on 12 VDC a workable option. This is the kind of stuff that makes me feel I am wasting my time here.

I think that needanswer totally misunderstood my post about heat. Let me clarify here. Adding waste heat from the engine to heat your electolyte (to a point ie 140F to 160F) is GOOD. Putting too much voltage to your electrolyte to heat it is BAD. I never recommend adjusting amps to warm the electrolyte, so that is a misleading statement for sure. I do everything I can to limit or eliminate the heating of the electrolyte by the current flow.

As Glenn stated, unless you put some kind of system in place to regulate voltage or current, the electrolyte will go into thermal runaway. By using the right number of properly designed and built cells in series to divide the voltage, you can severely curtail the effects of thermal runaway without having to add a lot of electronics for a simple boosting system. We're not talking rocket science here, we're talking about simple DC boosters.
