As a couple of you mentioned earlier, we need to capture the imagination of children to get them interested in this stuff for the future of free energy. I have been thinking a lot about this lately and this morning I had an epiphany!
I have a thirteen year old son who like most kids his age enjoys instant messaging his friends on the net, playing video games, and watching TV.
He is a smart kid, but he just seems bored all the time. He does like to READ however and it occurred to me today that his favorite books are fantasy. For example, he is obsessed with Harry Potter as are millions of other kids all over the world!!! Currently he is reading War of the Worlds and is intrigued with the concept of ray guns.
So anyway, I was surfing the net of free energy websites last night and I came across this site:
http://www.electricspacecraft.com/ringflyer.htm
Interesting...no?
Now click under the video clip and look at the “magic” wand made from PVC.
Then it occurred to me that back during the middle ages (and before I am sure), there were people who experimented with these sorts of things and may have discovered how to produce "magical" electrical discharges using simple materials. Google "Bagdad Battery" [this invention needs a whole thread onto itself!!!]
Without the perceptual concepts of static electricity that we have today, people would have thought this to be "strong magic." I could be wrong here, but if you were an inventor of such things during this time, one of two things could happen. You could sell your soul so to speak and become a magician for the King who would have wanted to consolidate and control such knowledge or you could be deemed a witch by the church and be burned at the stake. Either way you were screwed.
Now, I have a lot more to say about this, but I want to get back to my point.
So, I was driving this morning taking my kids to their Mom's so that I could go to work and I brought up this topic with my boys. Immediately, they became infused with excitement!!!
I said what if some of the stuff in the Harry Potter movies and middle age mythology had some truth to it in the sense of discovering unknown energy states.
I then showed them the website above and they were so excited to make a "magic wand" to do these things. Now, if we could come up with toy wands made of cheap pvc and aluminum foil interesting enough to capture the excitement and curiosity of children who have been exposed to Harry Potter, you could create a whole generation of young people intrigued with the concepts of free energy and there would be no stopping the inertia.
Somehow, we just have to bridge the young geek science world with the young fantasy world kids. I am thinking renaissance festivals which seem to occur all over the place these days at least here in Florida. Also, my two youngest kids love to collect football cards and they both play football, but when ever we go to these collectors card shops, there are always a group of kids playing dungeons and dragons, etc. There is a whole generation out there folks who would be intrigued with this stuff if it were packaged the right way.
As colleague of mine at UF has a son who has a History degree in medieval folk lore and he and his wife know several ancient languages. I plan to discuss this idea with them.
The other thing is that in the industrial world that we live in, there is so much cheap material from which to experiment with and there are a number of websites that discuss interesting home science projects.
Anyone else see where I am going with this???
