thers a link in my power supply folder.its where i bought mine....its flakes so it should be 90 to 92 % pure.

i bought some in a liquid form from a hydroponic shop for us$15/litre, 48% pure, used for raising pH levels, but seemed less stable in my electrolyzer than H2SO4, ie at 5v 20A, H2SO4 burns fine when bleeding thru a 1/8"OD and approx 1mm ID copper tube mounted on a needle valve, (but gets warm, then hot - thermal runaway), but the KOH (which ran cold) exploded twice within my stainless steel housing of my kettle, the first time taking out the pressure gauge and needle valve, the second blowing out the seal at the bottom of my kettle ... if i was using the old plastic housing as pictured on my project page i would still be picking up the plastic pieces ... the spiral elements, suffered no damage what so ever

George Wiseman (www.eagle-research.com) in his HyZor book comments both H2SO4 and KOH require twice the cell voltage compared to NaOH (drain cleaner) to dissociate water

So, have you attempted using the NaOH as an electrolyte yet. If so, how did it work? And have you put a kettle in a car yet?

The kettle is such a good idea. I want to see how the mpg looks.

hey i got this from wikipedia "Short exposure could cause serious temporary or residual injury." this is refering to koh. why do you use it over red devil lye

kd7twf, could you please give the link you are refering too..? Doing a search on KOH on wikipedia and could not find the statement you made.

For one reason is the effiecentcy and the other for me is the mess.When use'n LYE you talk about a mess it makes.A lot diffrent from use'n KOH.Anything the gas made with LYE touches leaves a white residue behind that isnt very pleasant at all.iI dont know how many times it would need scrubed and clened to get rid of all that residue......Ask someone thats put the gas made from lye in a motor wat happens to it........
