Electrode Materials

Postby AlaskaStar » Thu Jun 01, 2006 3:26 pm

I thought a great place to put a list of good and bad Electrode Materials, would be a new thread, so here it is.

I was thinking that SS plates are great, but what about 4130 Chrome Moly Steel? it has Chromium (kinda hard, and resists most anything), Molybdenum which is hard, and resists a lot more thing, and Steel which is refined iron. so what about adding nickel to this? Nickel is used as a catalyst in NH3 Separation reactions, so what about here?

I got'r started...so you guys take it and run...

i know organization of thought patterns is a great way to help put the sciences together in an easy to access, well put together information site. this does not mean it is based entirely on one particular process or idea, but rather a whole collection of them.

Nickel

Postby mrgalleria » Thu Jun 01, 2006 4:08 pm

Alaskastar's suggestion of the use of nickel is a good one.
I have started a project folder on the results of experimenting with nickel.
All of you who have been discussing the use of exhaust heat will find this info exciting, as I did!

mkay... mrgalleria, I read your project. Too bad you couldn't get a one way valve to let outside air in right before the vapor hits the nickel, and let the 78% nitrogen air mix with that vapor. Don't know what the proper ratios would need to be, but I imagine that water in a gaseous state would have closer density to air, and at high heat created by the exhaust, it could give a richer nitrogen mixture with outside air.

nitrogen

Postby mrgalleria » Thu Jun 01, 2006 5:00 pm

Hi Green Eggs,
regarding the vapor hitting the nickel: the nickel is submerged in the heated liquid that is gravity fed to it. This is the case in this project. Maybe the nitrogen air introduction you speak of can occur in the carb-intake manifold.
Anyway, wouldn't it be best to keep this simple?

I agree with you on the simplicity. I was just guessing that the H2O + N and the added nickel and heat would make H and NO2, a nice performance boosting cocktail. No proof though, just a guess.

Since air is roughly 80% nitro, and 20 oxygen, it would be nice to take advantage of that instead of using a nitrogen additive, or peeing in a container. This has really got me thinking though, the heat+nickel and nitro is a really good idea, thanks for sharing it.
