This forum is for discussing anything related to electrolysis and electrolyzer designs.

How much time before we can fully use the power of Water?

I am a newbie at this h20 thing and I am really interested on the possibilities of this technology.

But as I read through the Internet, there are some people that says that it is impossible to use water as a fuel for cars. and some people also says that they really found a way to use water as a fuel for cars.

I am really confused with what is really true. I have read a lot of websites and you guys seem to use water as a fuel.

1. Is it true that it is now possible to use water as an alternative to gasoline?

2. IF it is true, how long it will be before an Average Joe can buy it and can use it (the device) in his own car to power a car or a generator.

3. IF it is true, what can people like me (w/o engineering knowledge) do to help to spread the word.

Thanks! Gasoline is now more expensive than ever. We really need to find a way to lessen our dependence on oil products.

I guess the answers to your questions are varied. Whether or not water can be used as a fuel depends on your point of view. Are you wanting to use the water directly, or just as a conversion medium to get what you really want?

Please keep in mind that before gasoline even existed as a motor fuel for cars, hydrogen was used. This hydrogen was obtained from the conversion of water.

It's not so much a matter of when the technology will be available to buy, ready to go, by the "average joe". It's more a matter of when will the governments allow this technology to come to market. It is a lot more difficult to put a tax on something that can be gathered for free during every rain, or collected for free from ditches, creeks, streams, springs, the ocean... Even impure water sources can be filtered for use, so they can't tax every source. You get the idea?

Stephen Meyers, Stanleys brother, has come up with a method that might just be allowed to exist. He has patented the design for a hydrogen filling station that sells taxed hydrogen fuel to the public for use in hydrogen fueled vehicles. He calls the fuel Hydroxyl, and it is generated from water using similar technology that his brother Stanley had tried to bring to the world. In this case however, he included the government taxing system, so it is not as much of a threat to the "status quo" per se.
