Hi Bobby R-
That exhaust driven alternator I showed may not be in production yet but would be great if it was. Let us know if you get a response from them.
I got interested when remembering that my turbochargers on heavy equipment that I owned were exhaust driven. There was a small oil line from the main engine to supply oil to its bearing. I am supposing because of the tremendous heat that regular sealed bearings would cook up and malfunction.
One could place gates in the exhaust flow that would shut off when the battery becomes charged and thus not lose any power turning stuff unneccessarily unlike our cars where we keep running belts and pulleys.
The steam option sounds fun too though. Let us know how that info develops for you.

When the price of gasoline went over $2.00 per gallon I started looking at alternatives again.

power for auto electrolisis unit

hi all that reply abt the heat tube is right. they are commonly used in industry & hvac work. one of the first practical uses for them was to chill the footings around the supports for the alaska pipeline when it was being built.that prevented the permafrost from thawing from the heat of the oil being pumped. a friend of mine worked that job as a welder for two years. enough history........ i have finally gotten the heat exchanger info together. a 5.4 liter ford engine will be able to make about 200 lbs of steam at 100psi per hour. with good efficiency that should translate to appox. 20kwh pre hr of power. that is a small amount of steam as far as cogen is concerned. however with the pulsed dc of bob boyces circuits it should prove very interesting in terms of fuel production. i will be calling a supplier of heat exchangers this afternoon for a price. marine exhaust systems of alabama is the us rep for bowman heat exchangers of england. will have more info soon. as soon as i have a heat exchanger in my hands i,ll start a project posting with pictures and info. anyone who feels to please jump in on the steam & power figures etc. this is going to cost some time & money so please feel free to critique if anyone sees any problems thanks bobby r

hi bob thanks for the encouragement. i,ve had that car in storage since 1975. car is probably older than a lot of people in this forum  . you got me thinking about making my own exchanger. considering the extreme delta across the tubes which way would you suggest connecting the tubes to the caps? brazing or mig/tig? i believe in the normal manafacturing they braze in a vacume furnace. any thoughts?brazing would be a lot easier. i have access to every kind of welding equipnment on the job& am a fairly decent welder with most kinds of equipnment. i like the idea of brazing because we have those huge tourch tips they use for roofirg. we call them dragons mouths  it would be pretty easy to do alarge number on connections quickly using one but i,m unsure if that type of connection would stand up to the stresses of 900f on one side & ambient water on the other( appox 800f temp diff). any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks and have a great day bobby r

The green steam machine is pretty cool isn't it? Thanks for the URL.

Remember the paddle wheel type of gizmos for placing in a creek which then turns an alternator to charge up batteries?
I keep thinking of that and all of the exhaust gases flying by as wasted energy. Can't be that hard to tap into that flow to turn an alternator?? Saw somewhere too now but I forget just where about some extreme duty oilless bearings made for high heat applications.
Of course all of that heat created by ICEs is wasted too of course. Hey, maybe one can use booth the flow and the heat to produce mega volts :)
