Spiral Formula?

This forum is for discussing anything related to electrolysis and electrolyzer designs.

How is anyone suposed to be able to roll ss sheet into that? I am lost. Is there a machine in use, or are you you just very good with your hands? I think, personaly that this design is very complicated.

Use ss pipe.

.5" in the center then .75" and so on. Now take every other pipe and weld a ss plate across the end. Do not bock the hole, (just to attach them all). every other pipe is - + - + get it.

There is a bit more to it that that. However, I think that it is more assertainable. The metal bending thing,,,,,,, I don't know.

Will it loose its shape with heat or humidity.... like a thermometer, or humidity gauge?

Will it unroll and short out over time? I think it could. Someone try the pipe thing. I think it will work well.
DRUGS are for loosers.

if you use very thin stainless it is soooo easy to bend .... i used 0.25mm / 0.010" material, but next time i might move up to 0.35mm, of course if you use thicker material you will have a harder time bending around a tight radius

no i didnt use a machine, i have no stainless welding equipment, i have no lathe, only a bench drill, a computer running an 8 year old copy of coreldraw attached to an inkjet printer and a pair hands

the only thinking required is how far to distance the mounting holes from one another, and if you use the below formula, you dont even need to think hard, just mark out the mounting holes at the given locations ... easy peasy :-)

id = ??????
spacing = material_thickness + gap

turns = ????
plates = ????

decrement = plates * 2 * spacing
od = (turns * decrement) + id

lngth = 0

print "0.0mm = 0.0"

for z = (od - (decrement / 8)) to (id + (decrement / 8)) by (-decrement / 4) do
(
lngth += (z * pi / 4.)
print ((lngth as string) +"mm = " + ((lngth/25.4) as string))
)

Ant:

The problem is that some of us are mathematical illiterates
(I raise my hand), and what's very simple for you, even
at your best explanation still goes over our non-machinists'
heads. That said I think your cell configuration is still the
very best, so here's my two cents;

How about we lay the two plates on top of each other but with
a similar sized piece of soft fiber insulation/filter media in between.
Now we roll it up and the filter media gives us a uniform gap. Now
we need to have some plastic clips or separators we can add on
both ends of our roll, which once installed, allow us to pull out
the liner while our clips/separators still maintain the gap distance.
No measuring, no math. I'll admit it might not be as easy as it
sounds.

Pahhh his design is so tough to build. I bent my steel rolling it up because the holes are so exact its tight, so i just built a big plate one. Unless you are really patient go with chris' or bob's design. Now all i need is a power supply.

hiya thrival ... yeah did think of that, fibre glass matting, weedeater nylon, plastic chicken mesh, etc, but need a spacer that does inhibit gas release ... currently replacing the plastic container with a stainless one ... have let it run upto 60 psi and a 1 foot flame exiting out of an under 1mm i.d. piece of thin copper tube, mucking around with different electrolytes at the moment

Calcium Stuff

Postby juanito » Mon Oct 02, 2006 12:02 pm

Hi!

ok, here is the formula, but, I don´t know where to find the Calcium Hydride powder.

CaH + 2HO ----> Ca(OH) + 2H

In Another Hand, I am building your kind of cell, and, could you please help me with the draw? I have a copy of Corel draw 10, and I was wondering If i can have a copy of the file to paste it into a Vinyl cutter, so I will have a "mask" where the drill may go.

I will cut the plates as you have said, the same measure, so I don't have misses.1000mm long and about 125mm(5inches) wide (4)
I will buy a 1"pvc pipe and do the thing at th etop to make it wider and find the plastic rods.

Another thing, I am confused about the Electronic device you use, I want to try it with the changes you made, It is hard to find pices on my country but I will fin the way to obtain them (I have the thiny thick SS now :D

As you said, Tahes even 100A That is so much "A", so I look for your guide and advise (most important Patience) :oops:

Can we exchange experiences and files for the device?, I look for the live size file to print or cut the vinyl and the diagram for the cirguit and any info you can share please :)

here is my email adress if you need it (please fix it before) h20juan at yahoo dot com.

Thanks In advance

hiya Juanito

please excuse me for not replying earlier, but have been away from computers for a couple of weeks .... i have emailed you the technical drawings for my 2002 4 plate version and the 2006 8 plate version

the 2002 version had 4 plates, each 1215mm between the first and last mounting holes, and used 0.25mm stainless, and has 1.5mm spacing between the plates; this design requires 2 pairs or MIRRORED plates

the 2006 version, which i still havent finished yet (i am waiting for some 210mm id plastic pipe) has 8 plates, and uses 0.6mm stainless, and has a 2.9mm spacing between the plates; in this design all 8 plates are exactly the same

ANT :-)

let me know what your material thickness is, how many plates you want, what your internal and external diameters of the spirals are and i can run my program for you
