Something to think on

Ok

If you use Zinc / Galvanized iron or any other substance to produce "Brute Quantities of H2" ............

HOW are you going to CONTROL it for an ON DEMAND purpose such as IC Engine. ??

It will work Great to put in Storage tanks, but that's not what we are after ...

Although AlaskaStar's reference to the process of .... The More Current you DRAW From it The MORE H2 is produced... AND when you RECHARGE, Put current IN end Electroplate the compound Back to the Plate to be drawn off again, It will produce H2 ALSO.

This is where we need to be looking, this we could control by how much current is being drawn off and returned.

His Video shows Nothing of this process !! and Zinc does not seem to be able to do this, it will just Off gas until it is disolved. Possibly the same materials are being used for Both processes but I doubt it. ?????
Fertilizer / Ice Melter is Great as a ByProduct, especially this time of year to keep your walkways clear, but the Electro Chemical process should not leave Byproducts.

??????????????????????????????????????????????

For controlling reaction, just vary current. Monitor gasssing and adjust current accordingly for needs of engine.

Yes If we can find the proper materials......
that is the OTHER process AlaskaStar had refered to ..

But the process shown in the video uses NO CURENT there for there is no way to control it for an On Demand System ... is there ?

How about having the "material" in a plastic carrier and just removing it from the solution. No material = No hydrogen.

btrautman:

I like your idea of just pushing a battery .3v past fully charged.
That's easy to do, uses little power, and can be controlled with
just one transistor and a pot. I'd use a coarse, granular or
spherical material, say copper BB's and lead shot or zinc pellets,
separated in either half of a container by any mesh material that
will stand up to acid, and leaving enough air-space for gas bubbles
to trickle upwards. As opposed to my earlier posts, why let the acid
attack the materials? Just over-drive the cell 24/7. Even when resting,
the H2 generating cell should have a fully charged battery preventing
it from discharging. What we need to know and be sure of however,
is that H2 production is from splitting water, not stripping the H2 from
H2SO4 as Orange_Crusader suggested in another discussion. My
gut hunch is that overdriving the cells is preferable and the easiest
way.

Thrival,

From what I have researched on the Edison cell, the hydrogen is from water. It states quite plainly that Edison cell generates a fair amount of hydrogen. Their solution was to just add water from the hydrogen escaping and to also have a layer of oil on top of the cell to reduce hydrogen gassing.

One question that I have is but I think the research answers, is do the nickle oxide and iron corrode from excessive charging and hydrogen escaping. Research shows the battery lasts around 10 years with the excessive charging that occurs ....indeed this is one of the advantages. So if the battery can last 10 years with excessive charging and excessive hydrogen escaping then there should not be a problem.

Now to verify that hydrogen does come from water and not electrolyte......with using "nickle oxide" electrode and not nickle.......

Ni-MH batteries

Postby geoffro » Sun Dec 04, 2005 11:01 pm

Nickel metal hydride batteries have nickel oxide in them, i'm not sure in what form but they have it.
