I think that if you go back and read the postings from AlaskaStar, he says that the materials used are easy to get and inexpensive. He even goes further to say that they can be purchased at your local hardware store. I think that the Nickel metal is very hard to get (anyone correct me if I am wrong, and point to a source). Therefore, are we trying to get too exotic with the materials that we are trying to experiment with when they may really be much simpler?

dilute sulfuric acid
galvanized steel (zinc + iron)

its a popular choice zinc/iron, readily available from 'scrap'

im using diluted acid from old car batterys and galvanized building scrap, works nicely....

now organizing a test engine

Usually for the fertilizer production nitric acid is used. Can it be that you still added somthing else to the nitric acid, if it is so? Otherwise from where should the sulfur come (NSO4, Ammonia Sulphate (NH4)2SO4)? And I believe also the there is a salt on of the metal develop.
