Hi,

I am new here but have been experimenting with a single cell with various materials. I have used Zinc, SS, and Carbon Rods with some interesting results and now I'm ready to build a series cell.

I’m building an 11 cell generator that will use 12 volts and 10 to 20 Amps. I currently have the Acrylic and 304 14 GA Stainless. With the deal I made on the stainless the best size for my plates are 5 ½â€

Lets see if this will help . Most automobile electrical systems actually run on 13.3 V. 7 cells in series will use 1.9 V per cell. As far as the gaps or plate spacing, 1/8 is recommended. I have found that with my test using different spacings, that the smaller the spacing the weaker the electrolyte has to be in order to control the cells amperage draw on a automobile. the larger the gap the stronger the electrolyte can be. The gas is formed on the plates surface, and I found that the larger gap between cells has little to no noticeable difference in output to the same cell with smaller spacing. But the larger spacing has advantages of easier refill. As for knocking the"bubbles off" I have only had problems with sticking bubbles in cells that were not fully conditioned or in cells with very close gap spacing. I hope this will help.

You didnt mention Electrolyte type or concentration that you are going to use.
I hope that means that you found the answer.........
Just like Gap between plates , concentration for optimum is a balance
between not enough electrolyte [ so not enough current ] and Too little water
[ so not enough water to actually split into gasses ].

I hope that you discovered the benefit of sealing around your plates -
To stop " Leakage Current " from taking the easy way around and not producing Gasses.

I would encourage you to try the advised 1/8 gap and if you want to see
what difference it will make .... then change it to a smaller gap. Its a lot
of work to do it accurately
but will certainly be an interesting experiment.
There may be an optimum at 20 thou less than 1/8 th, I just dont know.
I expect that it would not be much difference. What are your aims with the
unit?
- Are you aiming to make a generator to run completely on Hydroxy
gas. or are you just hoping to make an efficient Booster to just save
20 % of your fuel?
- If you are just boosting then the very small difference in efficiency
from changing plate gap very slightly would be insignificant compared to the
difference in efficiency from reducing the output with less volts across each plate..........
Id better clarify that , you can get better efficiency from less volts across
each plate, but the gas output goes down.
To get more gas output , I put more volts across each plate up to a point.
This is an efficiency Trade Off..!

You can get more efficiency and still decent output with larger plate sizes
but then the physical problem of fitting it into available space.....

You just have to try a certain design and change things slightly if you want to
improve it. You have a good idea for a start - to try a Series Unit and
not going too high on voltage. If made well , it will be great in what it can
do. [ as long as you think saving 20 % fuel is worthwhile ].
