My current working design and the future design to be built

It sounds like it's probably a troubling design, but I still think there's something to it. I mean, since every steel ball is touching doesn't that really make the "pile of bb's" really 1 piece of metal with just alot of surface area? If that's the case then you have electricity flowing through every bb on the anode as well as the cathode instead of just the outer ones. I am probably wrong as hell, but since a 5lb bag of shot is about $5, there's not alot of money to waste so I'll go for it. And I will be happy to be the first to admit I'm wrong which I probably am.

I have tried to read as much about Alaskastar's project as he aludes to, I have been searching around and it's hard to find other exact threads where this design is mentioned. I figured I was on the right track when Alaskastar commented on my ideas in a positive way. And besides, sometimes we learn by reading, sometimes we learn by doing. It just so happens this is a cheap lesson, but I still appreciate all the input. If anyone knows of the specific threads where these types of things are located, please let me know, I will continue to look on my own.

hi Savage1r--enjoying reading this this as i'm also relatively new to things and it's answering a lot of stuff i would have been asking--how you getting on with the sodium hydroxide?----thanks to AlaskaStar for info on IGBT's--my mosfets were rated at 18A.

I have yet to get my sodium hydroxide, it should arrive in the mail today or tomorrow, I'm going to a reloading store today to pick up a $5 bag of steel shot so I can give it a try. If not, then I'm going to be going foreward with the plate design with a friend of mine. He's also going to make a circuit that will allow us to use pots to change the voltage/amps so we can find the sweet spot. I'm not sure the total wattage output of an alternator of a car, but we figure if we can get a good reaction from 60w (probably pushing the current side quite a bit) that there won't be much of a load put on the engine. Hopefully I'll have some more answers and the bb test by the end of tonight. I'll let you guys know what happens

I went to the most prominant gun shops and reloading places I could find in LA and no luck for steel shot. It's "too expensive, you'll pay $50 for a 10lb bag". Which is a misconception. I found this place http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=340840
which is $18 for a 10lb bag (of pretty much any size ball you want). So, I'll have to wait till the end of the week or early next week to do the test. Still very cheap I think considering.

8lbs!!--thats a lot! i must be lucky,i can go into any hardware shop and buy it in 1lb tubs--i'm still on my first one yet but can't get enough free time as i'd like--this thing hooks you,at first i was telling myself for the cost of a few components etc it's costing nothing really and it's interesting stuff--hate to think of the cost some guys on here pay out but i'd be with them if i had the knowledge(and the cash).
