Something missing here? The picture shows normal Bob Boyce series design. I did test the previous design with brute force. But didn't manage to measure amount of gas produced at that time.

Also found that it is had for me to refill the cell. I will go back to this design later after I test Bob Boyce series cell design first. So I rebuild the cell again. In fact, its quite fast to change design if use press method.

I didn't snap photos during assembling of the cell. The connection lead changed to better one. I cut the lead as same size as cell plate with top lead about 2" for connection. So this time there wont be any plate bending issue.

8" x 9.5" series cell.

Why the cell looks much taller right now? Actually, this is 8" x 9.5" series cell. I build this cell same time with 6" x 6" cell.

Completed 8" x 9.5" series cell. Top view. I have to add small PVC sheet (0.5" x 0.5") at middle and top of plate gap. This spacer PVC will make the plate gap even. I had to use GOOP glue to stick this small PVC spacer in place.

Closer view. Both end plates are 8" x 10" while middle plates are 8" x 9.5". So I don't need any connection lead plate for this cell. Also the press wood size are 10" x 10".

AC to DC

Postby kumaran » Thu Dec 28, 2006 11:45 pm

The previous DC power supply which was shorted due to my mistake cannot be repaired. So, I made simple AC to DC converter. Took me about 2 hours to make this unit.

Main Power (230V) -> Variac -> FWBR -> Cell.

I place car amplifier fues (30A) in this circuit. Wires are 2.5mm insulated. Ammeter (30A max) and Voltage meter (30V max).

Plastic container

Manage to get plastic container to place 6" x 6" cell in. I was looking for container which can be used to fit both series cell but until today I couldn't find one.

The cell in the container already went through conditioning process for 2 days as I have mentioned in earlier post. Look closer at SS connection lead. At anode the SS lead turned to light shiny brown colour.

Side view. Used LEGO set pieces (had to ask permission from my daughter to use it) at bottom. Electrolyte spillage will not damage the wood by this way.

SS joints and fittings

Postby kumaran » Fri Dec 29, 2006 12:14 am

Plastic container cover (bottom). I'm using SS joints and fittings this time. Heated SS joints and melt press into container cover. Later apply GOOP glue to seal holes at the edges.
