Hey pinhead, I posted my comments in oupub just to keep on topic. I'm guilty too..

Hopefully - the third times the charm. 8) I've been watching your progress and awaiting your results. It does seem as if your project shows efficiency progress.

There are just so many designs that can be tested - yours is one of the more efficient ones that I've encountered.

My bent is still harmonics and high voltage, though my progress at this time of year is more paper than actual work time.

its getting there Kumaran. Mine developed a very small leak, and I'm re-glueing it. Gee I look forward to plastic welding or proper solvent
jointing. Make sure the outlet pipes are large so no build up in pressure
inside.

Hi Glenn,

You were missing for few days? Busy? Yes, plastic welding could be on of the best solution.

Yesterday, I have done the cleaning job for 8 plate 6" x 6" series cell. Heat up a bit strong electrolyte about 70 degrees Celsius then poured into each cell compartments.

5 minutes passes, no leakage, 10 minutes passes, no leakage. Big smile in my face. Hehehehe. Over confident that the cell won’t leak so I kept electrolyte for 30 minutes before draining. I know the glue did a good job but can’t trust until cell pass through full conditioning process.

Before electrolyte poured into cell, the electrolyte was clear pale in colour. After draining, I observed that the electrolyte colour changed to light yellowish. This worries me a bit. Why there is a change in electrolyte colouring? Does goop glue dilute into electrolyte or because of dirt’s from plate?

Rinse the cell with two 2 liter of distil water. Wipe dry and then fix the cell into air tight plastic container. Reusing the same plastic container ().

Needs around 400mL of electrolyte to fill the entire cell compartments. Today, I will mix new batch of electrolyte (KOH) into 1 litre distil water. I aim for 2-3 amp at 12VDC. I planning to use 4 amp battery charger connected to 70AH, 12V car battery for conditioning process. 3 days conditioning.

I really hope that everything goes well as planned. Don't want to face leakage problem anymore. Hopefully I can report good results on Monday.

Residual voltage

Postby kumaran » Tue Dec 12, 2006 11:25 pm

Hi,

I checked the cell voltage without powering it for more than 24 hours. Meter shows 0.48V from anode and cathode. The cell now keeps the charges similar like electrolytic capacitor.

I did check residual voltage from isolated cell but meter reads 0V.

I'm wondering if this residual voltage can be used as reference to determine conditioning stage. In other word, higher residual voltage the better conditioned cell. Just my tought.

Anybody has any feedbacks on this?

Hi that pressed design is my replication of Mr.Boyces sealed booster drawing. It worked nicely...It really isnt that hard to do considering wat it is an all.The pvc i used cant take alot of heat but holds up good ..those cells dont get too hot all. That system is very easy to seal and keep sealed.
The only sealant needed are on the plumbing fixtures..i need to post those and show ya how to use it all with out a chemical pump.i liked that design and worked up a plumbing arrangement so that overfill and foam wasnt a problem to be recirculated back into the system with out a chemical pump wich was fun to do.The scientific name of that stuff..I havent a clue....its a type of pvc.Ill check into that and post back.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your feedback. Finally I found the spacer material like you were using. I found from freezer repair company after two days searching and asking people around.

But they only keep 1mm thickness strip which is commonly used. I have asked for 3mm thickness and they are checking with thier suppliers. This material is not cheap.

Your cell is total sealed design. I will still go for top open design first. Easy to refill electrolyte. Your cell photos dated back in 2004. Me far behind you.

Check this design
