look into "phase loop syncronization" that power companies use to couple multiple energy inputs to the grid.
that would provide a way to couple them without frying them up. although we would all get a kick of watching a video of 4 inverters going up in a shower of sparks and pops, i'm sure it would be a very expensive method to learn why AC power is kept "in time" so to say.
someplace back in history there was a major electrical blackout in someplace like new york, though i could be wrong. but the story went that the guy just threw the switch to couple the second generator to the grid....and blew the grid. basically all power shut off. the aparrant reason was the AC power sine wave of the second was exactly 180 degrees off the first generator, and cancelled it out. lots of sparks, and lots of smoke. just fathom a genset head glowing red and the engine chugging all can go.
