Higher than what percentage? I'll have a PWM on mine, but I still don't want to put any more KOH/NaOH in it than I have to.

shoot, i never mess with percentage...but i know my mixture is ultra strong to drop my cell resistance as low as possible. to a gallon of distilled i prolly have a good five tablespoons in there, maybe more.

ok, that's not as high as I was expecting then. I had done a test with NaOH but I don't really remember how much I added. Doesn't really matter much though, as long as I can get the motor to run at idle on hydroxy I'll be happy. At least then I can leave the engine running all the time with no concerns for fuel costs, and with that much hydroxy I would be able to leave the timing retarded even with the gasoline and have the high end of the rpm range still being useful. I'm hoping to get to the point where I feel confident enough to replace the really easy to aquire NaOH rather than use my expensive and harder to get a hold of KOH.

Now that I'm selling a few more items off from my stuff in the garage I think I'll be able to finally finish the

i'd have no problem taking a reading between the plates if my numbers were any good..... heres why...

the cells resistance has to do with three key points:
-electrode spacing
-electrolyte concentration
-electrode surface area.


however, the resistance of a cell varies with voltage applied, simple R=E/I style calculations. so unless we were using the same multimeter that output the same voltage to check a circuit's resistance, the numbers wouldnt be consistent.

for instance, @ 3.0 DCV, my cell would pull about 25 amps.
R=E/I says it is 0.12 ohms.

and at 3.3 DCV, my cell will run at full speed, 35-40 amps, so my dividing number would be 35, 0.03 ohms.


(i really should sit down one day and plot this on a graph)
as you can see it seems to be what i'd call an "exponentially ascending amperage for subtle increase in voltage.

well, its time to drive my cell to 50 amps. i have two 25A dc-dc converters that are wired to the same breadboard and each is independently voltage adjustable, so now i can fine tune each cell to its full potential.
