This makes a lot of the thermite to be wasted, as much of the mix is going to be scattered prior to it ignites.
Burning up thermite won't trigger drinking water to split up into it's element elements, air as well as hydrogen.
I am not sure the reason why you may wish to add a binder to thermite, rather than merely limiting it. I've not tried it, but I wonder in the event that mixing it with a bit of dissolved parrafin may work.

I finally got around to trying it out and it's fun. I rusted and ground the Iron for the iron oxide and hand ground the Aluminium powder via a file. Took ages but it's all nice and fine. Took 3 party sprinklers crushed on top of the thermite and three poked into the mix to get it started but it went quite nicely. I set it off in a hole about 2/3rds a foot deep and about an inch in diameter. I got a nice flame about the height of the hole high. went for a good 30 seconds. I used 30gm of FeO to about 15-20gm of the Al powder.
I dug the resulting metal core out of the ground and I'm gonna clean it up a bit to see how it went.

I need one to be completely under ground... this is so that the mower can just go over it(not when hot, ofcourse) but yet it can burn wood and melt steel...
For me Propane is totally out of the question so wood is my only option...
Does wood have even energy to melt steel?
Any help in this subject would be awesome... thanks
