The only reason that they don't work is simply that gravity is a static force, and a system that has no energy input will rest at equilibrium until an energy source knocks that equilibrium off center.

Even though they don't work in the ideal overunity sense, I still wonder if there might be a practical conventional use for some of these designs.

I mean, gravity wheels represent the energy cycle fairly well, and their very efficient, in terms of using all of the available input energy, should one be developed to operate on an input energy.

What I mean; if an overbalanced wheel were designed to operate on steam (for example), would it not provide a REALLY good energy buffer / energy storage and release mechanism by which a great deal of the input energy may be converted to rotary kenetic energy for use in general application?

Consider that it's easy to create a large burst of energy all at once, but it's difficult to harness that immediate energy for lower energy demanding tasks. What if you used that single large burst of energy to store potential energy in a wheel, and simply sipped off of that burst slowly, as gravity pulled it into eventual eqilibrium?

Rather than simply losing a large percent of your energy because you can't use it right away, you take the overbalanced wheel concept, and used it as an energy storage hybrid... A way to both store potential energy, and a way to use it in a practical way, all in one fairly efficient device. Sort of a heat engine, with a built in flywheel that has the potential of storing and releasing excess energy at a much slower rate... Or even releasing the energy at a variable rate.

Bottom line, I think that there is a little more to some of these ideas than meets the eye, you just have to consider rebuilding them under more conventional theoretics, instead of discounting them because they don't produce the ideal free energy.
