I really like the idea of the big diode between the alternator and the battery... it has one already I'm sure (in the form of a full wave bridge rectifier built into the alternator)... but I can't wire my electrolyzer behind it...
So the next best thing is an external diode. I do like that idea a lot. Where might I find a diode powerful enough to do what I need to do here?
Regarding the relay hooked into the ignition key... I LOVE that idea because it's so simple... but people will sometimes leave their key turned on for the radio or other things. You don't want to drain your battery in these cases because of forgetting to turn your electrolyzer off.
Hence I keep coming back to the desire to have a simple circuit that detects the 14.4v in the system.
Did those simple diagrams I submitted seem like they would do the job? Anyone with more electronics knowledge then I ...please feel free to speak up
