pressure/vacuum?

Postby dalanw » Wed Jun 13, 2007 1:11 pm

hi,i've a hyperbolic unit close to where i live and although i haven't spoken to the guys there for a while i am going to ask if i can run a cell in the unit under various conditions--hope they will be okay about it as a couple of them use to relieve their hangovers in there at one time! Anyway i was thinking of gas output under pressure/ partial vacuum--has this been done by anyone on here with proper equipment for this?--just wondering .

A Partial vacuum WILL INCREASE your Efficiency of your cell. Why?

Start with the simple stuff here, and you will quickly understand why it increases your cell's output.

Start with a flask rated for vacuum and put a quantity of water into the flask (container) so that it fills the container to half full or 50% capacity. now, seal the container. remover 50% of the gaseous atmosphere (air) from the space above the water. the remaining air will expand to fill the empty space. now remove the remaining 50% of the air inside the container. Now the only thing available inside the container to expand to fill the empty space is any air trapped in suspension in the water, or the water itself.

When the water starts to expand to occupy the empty space generated by a severe absence of pressure, as the water is now the excess of pressure, the water will "boil" at room temperature inside the container to expand to fill the empty space.

As this occurs, one will note a similarity to the bubbles in the cell needing constant removing from the plates to keep the cell production up with little or fewer amps/ volts. the bubbles generated in the water will release from the plates to fill the absence of pressure as it is the easiest thing to fill it with, ir relation to pressure differentials.

I heard Basic Chemistry Textbooks are available on AMAZON.COM really CHEAP. I find the TEXTBOOKS are more useful in some case than REFERENCE BOOKS, because the text-book is designed to teach HOW AND WHY it works, not just that it works.

thanks AlaskaStar, btw i meant to say' hyperbaric'--what you say was my theory but i was not sure if i could compare the boiling of water to passing an electric current through it. And yes i do need a bit of educating on these subjects, just didn't want to replicate stuff that's maybe done a hundred times before with poor results--too impatient--want to crack it today! lol. thanks again,Dave.

Hyperbaric Chambers usually are used to INCREASE the pressure, however they can be used to lower the pressure as well.

If you increase the pressure, the cell will lower h2 output.

If you decrease the pressure, the cell will INCREASE H2 output.

On the vaccum part......If I were to pull a vaccum on this chamber

Its got a lil bit of NaOH in it.....my question for this is wat kinda gas is pulled out of an electrolytic chamber like that? I can see some hydrogen and oxygen gasses come'n out of the solution but the gasses or wat ever they are in the solution thats Illuminated in that cloud of something....If that cloud in the chamber was hydrogen gas or oxygen gas or a mixture of the 2 why is it not come'n out of the solution on its own instead of just saturating the water with its self?Im just wandering wat kinda vapor is it that stuff when a vaccum has pulled it out and put it in a tank or tube or wat ever.....

Kevin that is a very comment-able picture.
There is just so much I'd like to say about it........but
I need to understand;
Is that your test?
Was it a Long time ago?
Did it create any unwanted effects? [ You know like LOUD noises / flames .. etc ].
Did the temperature of the liquid get checked?
How much voltage is between the plates?
Did the operator feel Nervous when the Hydrogen started coming out?
-
Its just that I feel nervous just looking at it, Glenn.

VACCUM......

Those cells only went as far as you see in that pic.It produced the reaction in that pic twice with the same water, I took a 5 gallon bucket I had collected rain water in ( it was still rainning) and poured some of it in that chamber.I hooked the wires up and it turned white in 2 seconds...I thought holy crap....unhooked the wires and went and got my camera...hooked the wires back up and took that picture.I let it run after that for about 20 minutes and the water never got warm so again I thought holy crap......unhooked the wires and came in and updated that project here...went back out and hooked the wires back up and the cloud only made it down half way instead of the impressive full cloud to the bottom...I didnt know wat happened and played with the wires some and never did get it to fill back up...ended up let'n it just run and it started short'n out in the bottom drawing a red ark so I unhooked and went on to another project...just allways wandered if the production wulda filled the chamber completely full if a Vaccum had pulled out the saturated cloud from the beginning.....the voltage was 2.2 between each cell, the temperature wasnt checked but it was cold fresh rain water, that was the only test I did with those. it was when Frank was around when I did that.the unwanted thing was the red ark in the bottom ..I think that was from a short..not really sure....it seamed to build up to the point it shorted out in a matter of a couple hrs.Yeah I did get Nervous when it started that ark in the bottom.

Vacuum testing I have done

Postby fordent » Sat Jun 16, 2007 9:51 pm

Hi,

This was one of my first questions I wanted answered, so I setup my test cell to measure the difference between running with and without vacuum. What I deduced was that when you first apply vacuum to the cell you pull the gas from the solution. After that the cell is still producing the same amount so therefore the vacuum has no affect on production. In other words once the water has become saturated with gas and starts releasing to the atmosphere vacuum does not change the amount of gas that your plates produce. I have also made a video with my testing process so you can make your own deductions.
