I have completed the cell construction on last Saturday. As expected, the end plate gave problem (water leagkage). Its purely because of the plate not even after welding the SS strip. The rest of cell compartment have no issue. No choice to replace these two end plates with new ones. Today, I just spot welded two new end plates with SS strip (much neater).
I don't want the weekend wasted by not doing anything. So, I modify old 6" x 6" cell with silicone.
Still using nylon bolt and nut to attach the plates together but apply some silicone to seal holes after tighten nut.
Completed cell it looks like this :
For sealing both sides and bottom, I insert silicone between plates about 5mm deep. Let it dry for 24 hours and yesterday morning, I refilled all the cell compartments with water. No leakage observed. Looks like the silicone done the job perfectly.
Pour in old electrolyte for cleaning. Also apply 13.5VDC from power supply. I check the amps readings was around 2A so it shows the electrolyte solutions is not strong enough for 7 cells. All cell compartment delivers fair equal amount of gas.
I did one stupid testing. The power supply connected to plate 1 and 8. Disconnect from plate 8 and connect to plate 7 and so on while watching the amps rising. Off course the hising sound getting stronger.
Suddently, one loud BOOOM

But it was fun experiment. I hope can complete the bigger cell assembly by today.
