It's quite a simple principle, and is widely used on boats.

Look up "Sacrificial anode" on google to see a totally passive solution. If you use electricity then it still uses the same principle, although not as fail-safe.

Hi Nebbian, Sacrificial anodes may work on watercraft but not so well on cars, I am speaking of the electronic devices now on the market that prevent corrosion from taking hold throughout the whole car or truck, etc.
Actually I am interested in how these electronic versions work and if they can be made as a do it yourself project.


I am also wondering if the technology would be helpful in controlling oxidation in hydrogen systems, perhaps inside the engine or even electrolysis units.
