New Power??

Postby Gravlore » Thu Jun 30, 2005 2:12 pm

Check out the site, not really hydrogen related but if it works then your means of collecting electricity isnt costing anything. tell me what you think! I decided to post in here because it seems the place to be where the most thought is generated.

It's flooded. I will be posting more updates to it shortly. I had to put it on hold so that I could finish perfecting this new software. Allowing you guys to all post and manage your projects right from the comfort of your home any time of the day or night, was TOP priority on my list.

I hope it's worth the effort. I think the software is quite nice is how it operates and integrates with the current site.

I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts on it Kevin, once you test it yourseld... but no more chat about that here in this forum.

Anyway, yes they are submerged cells so I need to build 7 of them to run in series for a 12v source. I will post many more pics and descriptions as soon as I get going again.

Pertyfly,

I am always honored when someone actually takes the time to duplicate one of my designs. Would you be so kind as to put that in your directory heading and the first picture of your project. I was going to put that as a request on my site but forgot to do it.

I just want people to know where the "Original" information or design idea came from in case I make further modifications and/or improvements.

You're right about the dimensions being different. I went with 12 x 1.5 for my plate sizes. This lets me use 2" PVC schedule 40 (the thick stuff). By having the smaller diameter tube and thick walls it should easily hold 100+ PSI ...if I was inclined to go that high.

Also something else you may want to change when you make your next one is to not drill into the end cap. My bottom witness mark to drill is above the bottom cap which will allow me to remove or re-use that cap in the future if I ever need to (provided I can get it off  ).

To seal the bolts on the side I plan on using oversized holes and some cone shaped rubber washers that should "squish" into the hole and actually come out just a tiny bit to the outside. It should be from the inside (and I'll have more pics of this now that I'm done the software updates): Joining nut, #316 washer, rubber cone washer, #316 washer, nut.

I have not yet gotten to the point of testing this so I can't say how well it will seal but that will be where I go first. I'll adjust as needed and document as I go so you guys can benefit.

Again I apologize for not having the rest of the project pics up yet, and commend you for taking the leap before I was finished posting. It is amazing to me every time I see something I've done, duplicated by someone who actually cared enough to "get their hands dirty" ...my hat is off to you sir.

One more thing. My tube is going to likely be 2 feet tall which will give me about 8 inches of "reserve" water above my plates. Since the plate array is about 14 inches tall and up off of the bottom by an inch; then inch of air gap at the top ...you're left with about about 8 inches of water above the plates. This will be important for long duration runnning without refill.

The unit can be shortened by about 6 inches once I have automatic refill equipment installed, but that's entirely unnecessary at this early stage, one would only need that in true production mode for long duration or continuous runs.

Sit tight I'll have more updates and postings very soon. :) I feel guilty now for not having time to post more info. I didn't think anyone was paying much attention to the design yet

LoL, of course people are paying attention. Well, I thought most people would be. I always find your ideas so innovative, and I sometimes have a hard time thinking ahead about the "best" way to go about it. For this one, I actually jumped into it without everything I might need  So, that's why a few things aren't the best design. I had most things, and then wanted to get it together because I couldn't wait to try it. LoL. Oh well. Design improvements of course!

BTW, my plates are 12" x 3.5" and I use 10 plates. Not positive how many you are using, but I wanted maximum surface area. I can actually jame more in there as well without being too crowded. The only problem I have is expense. I need to pick up some more metal, but it's a lot of money for 6 more units :?

Tell me, what happens if I build 6 more the same way, but with slightly less metal in each (just to decrease cost for testing), and use them all in series?

What I understand is It would still be the same calcs and everything for amps and volts, I would just get different gas production in the one from the other 6 I make. In that case, since all the gas is going to be put into the same place it makes no difference to me. Is this right?

I just want a more inexpensive way to decrease voltage and be more efficient while testing. I find it very unsafe to run at 12v :)

I had it running for quite some time one day, and it did get extremely hot. Like, so hot that I could not even touch it. I immediately turned it off when I found that. And yes, I knew it would do that. I do read all posts :D (I just couldn't wait to test it)

Sorry, I know it's not the right place to ask this, and if you want, I'll post elsewhere, but the question just came up
