Mark, glad to see you back. Haven't been posting much. I have been moving, but that a long story. Now on to nox. Selective catalytic reduction Or (SCR) have worked very well in stationary units. Our power plants is one example. Now they have found a way to use it in diesel systems. I truly believe in diesel engines this is a big mistake. As you know (SCR) and the egr is a stop gap measure. These Stop gap systems do not increase fuel economy.
Here are my thoughts, Add Oxygen !!
Now, another advanced approach for reducing NOx may be to add oxygen to the combustion process. Although this seems counter-intuitive, because oxygen promotes higher flame temperatures, if we can carefully control the way in which oxygen is added, the efficiency of the combustion process can be improved (meaning less fuel is consumed) and nitrogen content can be reduced. NOx emissions reductions of as much as 80-90%. This has been demonstrated at commercial glass melting furnaces that have been converted to oxygen-enhanced fuel firing. Why can't our industry apply this type of technology to the diesel and gasoline engine? If we reduce the fuel, increase the Oxygen going to the motor. It's a win win.. Very low NOx, Less fuel used..
Key to this approach will be an economical way to produce the required oxygen. Ceramic membranes, which allow only the oxygen in air to pass through.
Also a water injection system with adjustable timing to reduce the flame temperatures would also reduce NOx.
Here's something to think about. With most hydrogen/oxygen (Hydroxy Boosters) system being added to our auto's (Gas or Diesel) and people claiming and increase in mileage and performance. Could it be the Oxygen? Now I'm talking about the non computer controlled systems.
You are a truly a man with a gift. Meaning.. You get to spent your time to visit, test and retest systems in place, with an ICE. Also you have more knowledge on what retail system that work, and the one's that don't.. I see in the near future, allot of the hydroxy companies getting into some law suits for there false claims.
I just wish I had the time to do more hands on research. At this time I'm data logging my truck. I know this is a long involved process, But, I will know what needs to be changed for my particular application.
