Yes, I understand all of what you are saying. The only thing that I didn't really realize was the magnetic fields working together to produce gas over Faraday. Without those magnetic fields "helping" the series cell, a parallel cell with the correct voltage would be as efficient as a series cell. The problem comes in, as you say, with the power/amperage control.
My post was basically pointing out that the electrical power would be the same, but I failed to point out the magnetics that Bob talked about.
In other words, if[/] you have a 2v supply you can run parallel and be a LOT more efficient than if you run any type of parallel cell on higher voltages.
When running higher voltage, series cell design is pretty much required.
The magnetics [i]still help series cells more than any parallel cell, though.
