The thing you're looking for is called "Veroboard" (sometimes called "stripboard"), and you can get it from most electronics shops. It consists of a fibreglass sheet, with lots of holes drilled in it, and parallel strips of copper on one side. You solder the 555 and associated components to the veroboard, then cut the tracks that you don't need.
