I have ALL the DEALERSHIP BOOKS for these, as well as the EVTM's the ATSG, and ALL other related materials. I also have the Haynes on this vehicle, the MITCHELL and the CHILTON.
I also have a NEW engine for the 1996 coming from NAPA (free of charge, and costs me nothing) because his drunken machinist removed the structural strength from my NEW (dealership ordered) Connecting rods, and they found themselves inside the water jacket of the engine.
But beyond that, I have rebuilt the engines on these, the transaxles, the steering, brakes, ABS, Fuel system, ignition system (nice tricks can be had on this one COMPLETELY ADJUSTABLE TOO!!) as well as the EMISSION SYSTEM. The State of Alaska uses one of my vans a few times per year to inspect the SHOPS that perform the MAINTENANCE, and SMOG INSPECTIONS. it runs so clean, that I have to supply the old and defunct parts for them to use to PURPOSELY FAIL the smog check, and if the station ILLEGALLY PASSES it, then the state gives them a RED TAG, and issues a PINK SLIP. COSTS the shop LOADS of MONEY. We get paid very well to do the undercover work.
I can get more information on these vans than most local shops. In basic form they are nothing more than a Ford Taurus with a VAN body attached.
All my Windstars have a Vin 4 (3.8 Litre) Engine. the 3.0 is a scaled down version, but rather gutless.
you can prevent premature head gasket leaks on these as well.
kinda costly, but well worth it. My 1998 has 202,154 Miles on it, and it runs near perfect. I need to replace a wheel bearing and do a front end alignment. I have it close, and the wheel is straight and doesn't pull anymore, but I have to do the final alignment tomorrow.
These vans are very forgiving, and the engines have MORE power available than the manufacturers would let on. We drove the 1995 from Wasilla, to Homer in JANUARY, and then bummed around town a couple days, and drove back ON THE SAME TANK OF FUEL. get a GOOGLE or YAHOO MAP...and figure it out. the mountain pass had at that time 2 solid inches of ICE on the roadway.
E-mail me for more info on these vans. Let's keep the site "Uncluttered"
