I'm still doing some research on the viability of reflashing the stock ECM. The vehicle is OBD2 compliant which either makes things far more difficult, or much easier, depending on what tools are available. At this point it isn't looking very positive.
The backup plan is going to a complete stand-alone system, and at this point I'll either be going with an Electromotive Tec 2 unit, or the E6X made by Haltech. I would prefer to reflash the stock ECU for obvious reasons, but the auto makers do everything in their power to limit the availability of the technology necessary to accomplish this task.
Assuming my ECU is J2534 compliant, I am looking into a Mongoose interface cable made by a company called Drewtech. This supposedly can directly link a PC with the ECU. Nissan makes their J2534 software available to the general public, but coming up with the scheme to re-write portions of the ignition and fuel maps are where I run into trouble. Any thoughts?
