Project Description:
I decided to build a Tesla Turbine ( otherwise known as a Boundary Layer Turbine ) but base it on using simple tools that most people would have access to. The idea is to allow a cheap turbine to be built, and allow people to have access to the critical bit when it comes to generating a useful ammount of power. A Tesla Turbine can also be used to generate power from a fast flow of water ( hydro )

A use most people would need is generating power from a compact ( takes up a small ammount of physical space ) solar steam setup.

Solar steam uses a solar reflector ( e.g. an array of mirrors ), that directs the sun onto a steam head ( a coil of copper tubing ) and the heat flashes the water to steam. The steam runs through the Tesla Turbine and the turbine is attached to a DC or AC generator to generate useful power.

I am still building this, but am hoping to generate approx 0.5 kW of power - enough to run a fridge and a few lights, or emergency medical equipment.

Obviously a turbine built at home is not going to be fully balanced and with anything rotating it does need to be fully balanced if you decide to run it at any decent speed. I take no responsibility for any damage, direct or indirect to people, property or information if you build such a device and all risk is yours and yours alone. This information is for information purposes only.
