Hmmm well we got it together and I was rather disappointed, it was a complete failure. I forgot to take a picture of it so off to idea number 2.

I went to K-Mart and purchased a 10 dollar hair dryer. I came home and started destroying my purchase :) -Well not really.

I actually did exactly what I wanted to do. I removed the heating coils and the 4 diodes that were acting as a full wave bridge rectifier. Now I had a simple DC motor and the blower housing. Nice :) -Think this one is going to work?

A quick solder job to attach 2 wires to the blower and label them. OK that's about it!

I cut off the rest of the handle as I wanted things as compact as possible. I then started re-assembly. It went back together like a breeze and I was ready for a field test!

Here we are looking down the blower. Everything is back together now and I'm ready to add the power.

I decided to add a switch to make things easier. I also noticed that a zenner diode on the heating unit, read 24 volts 8 amps. That was the information I needed for the motor. I was wondering where the input was being clamped off so that the little motor didn't blow up.

24 volts eh? That means I can use 1 battery for low and 2 in series for HIGH :) -Now we're really in business. By the way, my batteries are simple 7AH (amp hour) 12 volt gel cell batteries. They are great for this stuff.

I needed to add just a bit of tape to the blower pipe so that it fit my new field blower. Now I have a true air supply that I can take anywhere. Let's fire this baby up!
