basic schematic...this is a good way to make a very powerful, single stage coilgun for nearly 100% free. there are better ways to do it.... inverters, multipliers, rectifiers, etc....

this is the circuit i found on coilguns.com for optical triggering.

12V battery to 110V inverter, then send it through a voltage multiplier(3x) to get 330V and maybe even a rectifier.... that'll charge up the caps much faster than a stupid flyback transformer, which are only good for a few milliamps. forget that, i'd like to fire the thing more than once a day!

idea for a semi-automatic mode of operation. all stages fired optically, firing sequence initiated by depression of trigger and actuation of mechanical solenoid with non-ferrous tip. mechanical solenoid actuates, accelerating projectile towards and into barrel where optical break-beam sensor detects projectile position and fires. subsequent stages fired optically as well.
