9/19/2002 Based upon suggestions from Jay Hayes, (again thank you for all the help Jay), I have decided to hook my burner up in a different configuration. I have now moved my gauge down to the burner end, and added a low pressure bypass. This helps a LOT whenever you want to remove the lid and check things or remove the crucible without shutting down the furnace. I like it very much. I pump in about 8 PSI on the main line and the low pressure option is about 1/2 PSI.

I can not seem to get my flame to jump from the back, out to the front, as Lionel claims he can do with his burner. Suggestions here are appreciated if anyone has had similar situations. I would love to be able to light it from the back and push it forward, but instead I am forced to light it at the front of my burner. -No big deal really, just a bit more challenging.

I took my very first picture right here of metal melting! -Yes you heard correctly! woohoo! I finally succeeded in melting Aluminum! I started my furnace at 6:17pm tonight. I got molten in about 35 minutes, but I think my crucible is much too thick. I will know more in a few more days after I get more experience with my setup. I am just ecstatic that I see melting metal in there right now. Sorry the pic is not better.

Another pic trying to show you the aluminum as it begins to melt.

Here is some larger stock going in. I can see it being "Eaten" and let me tell you, it is the coolest thing to feel. If you push on the stock, you can feel it melting away like an ice cube!
