Project Description:
This project uses the same electrode style that v4 did.  v4 was abandoned because the containers couldn't seal well enough to hold enough pressure to push the water into the bubbler :P.

I'm using the same type of container as I was using in v3.  I am much happier now with the amount of gas that can sit around in one of the containers -- MUCH LESS than v3.

Essentially, my ultimate goal is to make ~12-14 of these and run them off the 24volt source of my power supply.  I think that should give me enough gas for pretty basic welding.

I will also continue updating this project as I run new tests with different electrolyte concentrations, and varying numbers of cells.  Whenever I update it, I will also update this description to show updates.

Updates:
10/10/05 - Added project

Almost done, just sealing it up.  I covered the seal area of the electrodes with teflon thread tape, and then did nut-oring-container-oring-nut.  Thread tape is _definitely_ needed -- It leaked otherwise.

I think it was Chris who posted that in his project (the necessity of the teflon -- You gutta have the teflon tape).  I should've learned by now that I should just learn from others mistakes, instead of thinking that it would work for me.  Enh, it was only 4 minutes lost -- And I got to curse and giggle a bit.

And a birds eye view of the same thing.

My 2-cell setup _almost_ ready to go.  After putting it all together I ran it for a little while.

First impression:  Gas production was very good.  Judging from the number of bubbles coming up through the bubbler, I'd guess that its making around twice what I was getting for v3.

The bubbles are now coming up too quick for me to count reliably, so I'll have to stick with volume tests.  I only had time to run it this afternoon for a little less than an hour, and I took the volume measurement at first.  I think it could do better than this, especially with a little stronger electrolyte.

Electrolyte:
Currently, I have two different lyes in each container.  Container one has "Gillian's Lye", which is labelled as "at least 98.5% sodium hydroxide".  Container two has "Home Hardware Lye Crystals".  They give no percentages, only that it "contains sodium hydroxide".  Each was mixed to ~13%.  I'm going to change the electrolyte so I have the same concentration in each container.

Volume test:
Start of test: 2:51:15pm
End of test: 2:54:10pm
Current at the end of the test: 2.80A

~600mL / ~3min = 0.2L/min, so I was right -- roughly double what I got from v3.

Voltages:
Cell 1: 2.260 Volts
Cell 2: 2.280 Volts

Roughly even.  I would assume that if I had a _much_ higher electrolyte concentration in one than in the other that the voltages would change?  We'll see -- I'll test my electrolytes tommorow (10/11/05).
