Once filled, the cell is ready to begin drawing power and creating majorly explosive gases.
Ohhhh, I can't wait     hehehe.

To supply power for this cell, I am using a computer power supply. The power supply is plugged into one of my windmills and delivers a steady 5V. 20Amps of current is available at the output, but I am using a string of 50 watt lamps as a sort of ballast resistor. This is inefficient, but effective for these early tests.
The cell in this picture operates at 8 Amps and 2.9 Volts. Gas delivery is slow, but the cell remains cool, so I don't have to worry about cooking it   .

A string of 50 watt, 12V lamps form the ballast resistor for this cell. If two cells were placed in series, I could dispense with the ballast - and gain twice the gas for the same power   .

After 18 hours of operation at 24Watts, the cell has remained almost perfectly clean. Given time, I am sure it will become somewhat messy inside. There is space below the electrodes for sediment, should this develop in the electrolyte.

This is an alternative method I was trying out. Stainless steel food bowls are housed in a sealable plastic container. The bowls serve as electrodes, and produce gas at the surfaces where the electric field is present.
This works but the steel is not up to 316 grade, so the electrolyte has become tainted.

The bowls will find application elsewhere in storing parts for other workshop projects.
