They all have a small magnetically-coupled pump and it's safe at least up to 100 C.
In addiion to tha the pump parts are made of very tough (and usually clear) plastic - so it won't react wih anything much.
They typically run off 12 V DC and can work from about 3 V on upwards.
I think they are excellent.
Those water pots are binned due to the thermal fuse blowing, circuit-board corrosion/deterioration or he seals leaking more than anything else, but the actual parts like the pump and the heater last forever.
What has been won by the brave at great cost can be lost cheaply by fools and once gone can rarely be regained and only then at great cost.
