I just saw an ad today in the new "Popular Science" for a cordless circular saw that touted it's new Lithium "Iron-Phosphate" battery. The major benefit they claim is an unusually fast recharge time, say, going from 10% up to 80% charge in less than 5 minutes. On another page there was a paragraph talking about the battery type in (I think) scooters and cordless tools, and they speculated that these would be a major benefit for "plug-in Hybrids". Apparently very similar to standard Li-ion batteries with some minor tweaking in the electrode chemistry?
